Well this is fun,,,NOT. My so called road has washed out again. This is the fourth time this year.I now have a ditch about 12 feet wide and 5 or 6 feet deep, don't think I am going anywhere today.Let's see if the town gets the front loader stuck again. What little of a garden I have is looking bad,got the peppers and tomatoes up by the trailer this year so they are OK,the rest are flooded then covered with sand.I realy have to find a better place to live.
Another repost I had made some for a few guests and they wanted recipe.Think it was my first boy scout leader that showed me how to make it.You do not even realy need a pan to cook it in,just some good coals from your camp fire.LOL,but I do use the old cast iron fring pan when I am not camping.

2 cups of flour (white and/or whole wheat) I use half and half most times.
I tablespoon of baking powder
1-2 teaspoons of sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Enough water to make it into stiff dough

Toss the everything into a bowl and mix;add water alittle at a time you want the dough to be kind of stiff just so it sticks together.Form the dough into a patty somewhere around 1 to 2 inches thick. You don't want it to thick or the outside will burn before the inside is done. When cooking on the stove I add a little oil or butter in the fring pan.Heat your pan if useing one, drop the patty in and realy cook it just like a pancake. To check it use a tooth pick(fork or knife works too)if you poke it and nothing sticks to it,you are done.Quick fast and very good to eat.
That is the basic recipe, but you can add about anything to it.I only put in dried fruit and nuts, think the one I made for you guys was pinyon nuts and raisins.I have seen one guy who puts bacon and chesse in his.

A couple of notes if you are camping and cooking without a pan

1.You can mix all the dry ingredients in a ziplock bag, just add water.
2.Good coals is the key here, hard woods work best.
2.I have cooked it on coals,on a hot rock,in a frying pan,in a dutch oven,my kids even used to wrap it on a stick like you were roasting a hot dog.

upon the advice given by others. They read the latest preparedness book or blog
post and automatically assume the advice given is the one true way,,Ugh,I call them the true belivers, their way or noway.People it is more art than science, what works for me may not be best for someone else.Read and learn all you can, then try it out and find what works for you.

9. Not eating what they store and not storeing what they eat: Many
new survivalist fill their pantry with unfamiliar foods, thinking they will
adapt their diet “when they have to” good luck with that. You need to learn how
to prepare and use these foods you store now, so they become a familiar food to you.

8.Relying on their food storage: When they have their one year supply of survival foods put up,they think that’s the end. They use stuff from it,then forget to replace it.LOL,or they forget to rotate it next thing you know you have 10 y/o greenbeans(you know who you are).

7. No Salt - or not enought of it.Come on people you can't live without it and it is cheap and easy to store, will not even go bad.

6. Bugging out: I’m not real big on the whole “grab a bug out bag and head for the hills thing”.A BOB should be used to get you home, that is it.Try to use it to "Live off the land"well,I got a couple of names for that moveing target and dumb are the first two that come to mind.

5. To much stuff not enough skills:Ok I love my toys any guy does, but get real folks, and don't even get me started on the gun bunnies. One guy I ran into out camping was a real winner. The guy said he was tring out his prepps, good he scores 1 point. After watching him unload his truck and try to walk with the pack -20.Had everything in that bag but water and away to make a fire (that he could use) before I showed him how to use a fire steel.Guy never could get one going.

4. Storing only one type of food: Bloody hell, you live through the shit hitting the fan only to kill yourself from only eatting wheat. After a few weeks of that I would be ready to off myself. One more time with feeling,Store what you eat and eat what you store.

3. Not taking care of pets/livestock needs: Ok,this is one that just plain pisses me off. They are your animals, you want them to protect and guard you and your goods, stock up on feed for them.Livestock even more, not going to get much out of them if you can't feed and water them.

2.More Dollars than cents - You know them, when have all drooled over new toys. There is a point to stop spending,if it is not broke dont try to fix it.You don't need the newest toy, just one that will get the job done and last.

1. No Plan B: Otherwise known has putting all your eggs in one basket. All anyone can do realy is guess at what is comeing.True anybody that looks can see something has to give,,but fingering the tipping point would just be guessing. That said nomatter what happens murphy's law will be alive and well.Don't get so locked into a place (or a idea),they just might bury you on it.Always play the "What if"game,,what if you have to run, where you going to?How are you going to move? What are you going to grab/How are you going to move your preps(if you can)?

I got water back on,they finely got the water main fixed. You have not had fun tell you try to live with no running water for 5 days in the Az. summer. Was no real danger,I have my stock pile of crap,as one of my ex's called it,and a well down the road,so water was not a problem.LOL,now keeping cool without the swamp cooler was another story.

Water Storage

You read in books and around the internet you will find most places say 1 to 2 gallons of water a day per person.I got to call B.S. on that atleast in the heat here.Call it close to 2 gallons to drink just to stay hydrated, without doing any work in the sun.Another gallon or 2 for food prep and cleaning.3 to 5 gallons a day for dog and what plants I did not want to cook.HMmmm need to up my water storage around here.I was keeping 30 days at 5 gallons per day, think I need to double that.

Some ways to store water.First is the 2 liter soda bottles,we all got them. They are cheap and easy to move, but dang you end up with alot of them around.Me I have a mixed thing going right now, kind of small space.

2-30 gallon blue food grade barrel (somebody gave them to me when they moved)
4- 5 gallon water bags from wally world (Score,,2.50 each on the clearance table)
4 or 5 cases of 1 liter bottles- Just because they are easy to handle and get cold.
4- 5 gallon blue plastic camping water totes-no idea where I got them or how much I payed, they have been around forever.
12 - 3.5 gallon water jugs - Big SCORE,OK,I have been known to dumpster dive, found over 40 of them in a dumpster behind a store still full of water. They were out of date,Ok by me,they go home with me.Folks you should have seen it,filled my car up passenger side, back seat and trunk,I still left more that I took from there.I have given may of them away over time.
I also keep all my empty canning jars full of water

Bottom line, your going to need alot more water than you think.

recipes people always bug me for.I am going to be lazy and post them here rather
than have to write them out every time.

Fresh Salsa

The whole thing about this one is DO NOT use store bought tomatoes, use ones
you have grown or got from a farmers market. The ones in the stores are just
not real tomatoes IMO.

4 to 5 lbs.fresh tomatoes, diced
12-15 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 medium onion the white ones, finely chopped
1 bunch cilantro,no idea how much realy just a bunch to taste realy, chopped
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons lime juice
sea salt to taste

mix well and that is it,going to try canning some this year maybe, but it
never lasts long enought to get it in the jars.

Zucchini Crisps

Start with a ripe mid size zucchini, you have been told you go useing one
of those 3 foot long monsters, you will not be happy.Peel and cut into slices
about 1/2 inch thick.Soak over night in a bowl of saltwater with alittle tabasco
sauce in it.Drain and place on papper towels sprinkle with cajun seasoning. You
can use the store bought kind, but some have to much salt.Do both sides, place on a
cake cooling rack and place in a over set on warm to dry,or use a dehydrator, mine I set at,135 deg. for about 6 hours or tell they are crisppy and snap when you try to bend them.Cajun Seasoning
I had a copy of the stuff I make, but it is gone in the great blog crash,,,oh well more to post later.

Advanced Stupidity

OK it is official,I have decided there is not enought chlorine in the gene pool.
Was hikeing around the Grand Canyon a few weekends ago, passed some girl getting carried up the trail by EMT's.She had turned her ankle and could not walk.OK,fine shit happens, then I see her girl friend comeing along behind them carrying the girls shoes.Sandals, you know the kind thin straps and heels.WTF,it is a trail going into the Grand Canyon not a trip to the mall.

Case number 2 of to dumb to live.Went down to Page,Az. to get away for a Sat.,stopped off at Horseshoe Bend(one of my favorite places to hang out and kill time)now there is a walk from the parking lot to the river of maybe alittle over half a mile. Not a hard hike but no shade and can be a bit warm.I see a guy ahead of me shorts, tank top and sneakers, you know the normal tourist outfit. He just drops, plop on the ground.I run up to the guy,he is all sunburned, red in the face and not sweating, great it is over 100 and the guy has a heat stroke.I get closer and can smell he has been drinking,oh lovely what a idiot.I try to get the guy to drink some water and wear my hat tell I can get some help,he was haveing no part of it,said he was fine wanted another beer and tried to get up and walk off,*splat* right back on the ground.Ok you got the picture, repeat 3 more times before I give up.Lucky for that guy found a ranger back at the parking lot.

I swear the next one I see I am just going to walk up and say "Here's your sign"and keep going.

Good:
1.It is a job,pay is not great but better than nothing.
2.Away from here.
3.My girl will move with me
4.Not many people
Bad:
1.No home, will be renting a place,a trailer to start with.
2.0% or close to it for being able to grow any food.
3.Have to leave what preps I have here.OH well, not much saved up after getting divorced, guess Mom and company can use what I have put away.
4.It is the frecking desert, last time I had anything to do with that kind of land was almost 30 years ago when I did my survival training and playing in the big sandbox overseas.
5.Zip O on water, from what I am hearing it has to be trucked in,wells are to deep for normal folks to pay to have drilled.
6.And just for fun the job is on the rez.,so forget about being able to buy my own place, looks like about 50 miles to land that might be for sale.

I am getting to damn old for this crap
They do not make any sense to me. I am starting to shut them out of my mind. It is just a form of mental illness and I don't seem to be able to cure them. Their one shot at happiness is that they are not alone. They will have plenty of company when the SHTF.

I just saw that Bill Millin died last week.I know most people have never heard of him,but you know what he did.He was that crazy bagpipper that walked up and down the beach on D-Day playing under fire.Rest in peace.

I know people are reading this wish somebody would comment, but looks like I'm talking to myself.

A oldie but goodie......

Murphy's Laws of Combat

If the enemy is in range, so are you.

Incoming fire has the right of way.

Don't look conspicuous, it draws fire.

There is always a way. (But) The easy way is always mined.

Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo.

Professionals are predictable, it's the amateurs that are dangerous.

The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions:

•when you're ready for them.
•when you're not ready for them.
Teamwork is essential, it gives them someone else to shoot at.

If you can't remember, then the claymore is pointed at you.

The enemy diversion you have been ignoring will be the main attack.

A "sucking chest wound" is nature's way of telling you to slow down.

If your attack is going well, you have walked into an ambush.

Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you.

Anything you do can get you shot, including nothing.

Make it tough enough for the enemy to get in and you won't be able to get out.

Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself.

If you're short of everything but the enemy, you're in a combat zone.

When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy.

Never forget that your weapon is made by the lowest bidder.

“The end of democracy and defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of the lending institutions and moneyed incorporations. The Bank of the United States is one of the most deadly hostilities existing against the principles and form of our Constitution. The system of banking is a blot left in all our Constitutions, which if not covered will end in their destruction. I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity is but swindling futurity. “

"It began with one Sheriff speaking with other Sheriffs about their oaths to uphold the constitution. A new movement is growing in this country in support of limited government, constitutional principles, states rights and a stronger role for sheriffs to play against federal abuse of power. In this 3-part video interview with Tony DeMeo, Sheriff of Nye County, Nevada, he explains that he is a Constitutional Sheriff and that authority for public office holders is derived from the people.
In his own words Sheriff Tony DeMeo describes an incident where federal agents of the BLM threaten him with arrest while the Sheriff issues his own threats of an armed response if illegal seizures of private property in his county continue. Imagine if BLM authorities went ahead with their “normal” operations of seizing cattle found on public property in direct opposition to Sheriff Tony DeMeo warnings? We would witness a standoff with dire consequences."
Lawyers Getting Outsourced To...India

"NOIDA, India — As an assistant attorney general for New York State, Christopher Wheeler used to spend most of his time arguing in courtrooms in New York City.

India’s legal outsourcing industry has grown in recent years from an experimental endeavor to a small but mainstream part of the global business of law."

Elderberry Wine:

5 lbs elderberries, stripped from their stems

1 gallon boiling water
3 lbs granulated sugar
1 wine yeast packet
½ cup lemon juice
½ cup orange juice

You can get fancy and use one of those wine makeing kits, but around here we just use a old stonewear crock, think it is about 10 gallon and has been around longer than I have.

Place elderberries into your container.Add lemon and orange juices.Pour boiling water into container and stir. When cool, squeeze mixture to release juices. Let sit for 24 hours. Add 2 lbs sugar and the wine yeast packet. Stir and cover with a tea towel or chesse cloth. Let sit for 3 to 5 days.Strain the liquid into something then back in the crock and add remaining 1 lb of sugar. Stir.Let ferment in dark, warm location for about 1 week. Strain into another glass container and let sit for another 6 weeks. Pour into wine bottles and seal. Wine will be ready to drink in about 6 months.

Elderberry Jelly:

The Hard part is striping the berries from the stems,I have found that a plastic fork is just the right size,LOL and makes for less juice all over.Note:if you have a kid do this do not let them wear their good clothing.Granny tanned my butt for ruining my shirt way back when ;)

About 2 quarts of the berries, well washed.Place in a pot and cover with cold water.Simmer for 15 or 20 min..Then strain useing a jelly bag or one of those "Flour Sack"towels. You should come out with about 3.5 or 4 cups of juice. Most time I make my own pectin, and I'll cover how to do it sometime, but where I am now I don't have a crabapple tree.so just get some SURE-JELL.

3 1/2 c. elderberry juice

1/2 c. lemon juice
1 pkg. powdered pectin
5 1/2 c. sugar

Stir elderberry juice, lemon juice and pectin together. Bring to a rolling boil. Add sugar and return to full rolling boil. Boil exactly 1 minute!!. Remove from heat, skim the off foam and pour hot jelly into hot, sterilized half-pint jars. Place hot caps on jars and screw on bands finger-tight. Process in a water bath canner for 5 minutes. You should get 5 or 6 half pint jars out of one batch.
