Monsoon season Sucks !!

Well this is fun,,,NOT. My so called road has washed out again. This is the fourth time this year.I now have a ditch about 12 feet wide and 5 or 6 feet deep, don't think I am going anywhere today.Let's see if the town gets the front loader stuck again. What little of a garden I have is looking bad,got the peppers and tomatoes up by the trailer this year so they are OK,the rest are flooded then covered with sand.I realy have to find a better place to live.

    Bannock Bread :

Another repost I had made some for a few guests and they wanted recipe.Think it was my first boy scout leader that showed me how to make it.You do not even realy need a pan to cook it in,just some good coals from your camp fire.LOL,but I do use the old cast iron fring pan when I am not camping.

2 cups of flour (white and/or whole wheat) I use half and half most times.
    I tablespoon of baking powder
    1-2 teaspoons of sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
Enough water to make it into stiff dough

Toss the everything into a bowl and mix;add water alittle at a time you want the dough to be kind of stiff just so it sticks together.Form the dough into a patty somewhere around 1 to 2 inches thick. You don't want it to thick or the outside will burn before the inside is done. When cooking on the stove I add a little oil or butter in the fring pan.Heat your pan if useing one, drop the patty in and realy cook it just like a pancake. To check it use a tooth pick(fork or knife works too)if you poke it and nothing sticks to it,you are done.Quick fast and very good to eat.
That is the basic recipe, but you can add about anything to it.I only put in dried fruit and nuts, think the one I made for you guys was pinyon nuts and raisins.I have seen one guy who puts bacon and chesse in his.

A couple of notes if you are camping and cooking without a pan

1.You can mix all the dry ingredients in a ziplock bag, just add water.
2.Good coals is the key here, hard woods work best.
2.I have cooked it on coals,on a hot rock,in a frying pan,in a dutch oven,my kids even used to wrap it on a stick like you were roasting a hot dog.

    4.Not many people
    Bad:

Running here and there not much time for the blog.Working on some paracord lanyards for key rings maybe get pics and post that.Trying to get a few 5 gallon pails of food put up.No room and no cash,,oh well make do.

I know people are reading this wish somebody would comment, but looks like I'm talking to myself.

    A oldie but goodie......

    Murphy's Laws of Combat

If the enemy is in range, so are you.

Incoming fire has the right of way.

Don't look conspicuous, it draws fire.

There is always a way. (But) The easy way is always mined.

Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo.

Professionals are predictable, it's the amateurs that are dangerous.

The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions:

    •when you're ready for them.
•when you're not ready for them.
Teamwork is essential, it gives them someone else to shoot at.

If you can't remember, then the claymore is pointed at you.

The enemy diversion you have been ignoring will be the main attack.

A "sucking chest wound" is nature's way of telling you to slow down.

If your attack is going well, you have walked into an ambush.

Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you.

Anything you do can get you shot, including nothing.

Make it tough enough for the enemy to get in and you won't be able to get out.

Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself.

If you're short of everything but the enemy, you're in a combat zone.

When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy.

Never forget that your weapon is made by the lowest bidder.

10 reasons not to have a gun in your BOB

Ok,I know this one is going to piss off alot of the gun bunnies out there, but before you start bitching, lets look at what a BOB is.The BOB is a 3 day (or so) pack to get you to your BOL or away from the local shit storm.A I.N.C.H bag(I'm Never Comeing Home)is another story.

1.The John Wayne syndrome or Rambo-idis has I call it:Yes a gun can make you feel 10 foot tall and made of steel, but get over it in real life you are a 6 foot(or so),2 legged animal that is very easy to kill.If you are bugging out you need to be a rabbit and not the bear. The best way to win a gun fight is not to get in one to start with.

2.If you are jumped by the bad guys without a gun you may just lose what you are carring, with a gun most likely they are going to shoot first and then pick your body.

3.Hell they may not be the bad guys, when SHTF going to be alot of nervous folks running around with guns. They see you comeing down the road looking like rambo, they might just take you out just to be sure.

4.Weight and space:3 days you are not going to be doing much hunting(if any),so carry more food and water.

5.Say you do manage to shoot a bad guy, cograts. You have just told his buddies and anybody else within a mile or two, where you are and that there is something there worth fighting for.

6.LEO's:OK now it is bad enought explaning to a cop you have a gun in your trunk on the best of days.Anybody what to take bets on how they are going to react when it has hit the fan?

7.Knowing you can't fight does wonders for your stealth and hideing abilities.Take it from me been there done that, you grow eyes in the back of your head.

8.The Military: First off 90% of the time they will follow their ROE's(Rules Of Engagement),but in a real grid down shit storm? They are out in the middle of nowhere for who knows how long takeing casualties.Well, not saying it will happen all the time but after awhile it gets to be shoot first, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

9.Ammo:Most people are not going to carry anything close to what is needed for 1 small fire fight plus the rest of their gear.Nothing worse than to find you forgot to bring bullets to the party.

10.You can get shot,,Well DUH but it does tend to ruin your day. Also makes it kind of hard to make it to your BOL.Don't know about you but that is the whole idea of a BOB to me.

    Into the land of Tinfoil........

Whatever happened to the $385 M (that's million) contract awarded to Kellog-Brown & Root/Halliburton to build temporary immigration detention centers?

You know, the centers to be built for Homeland Security for an "influx of immigrants...natural disaster or for new programs that require additional detention space."

At the time this contract was announced way back in 2006, a Homeland Security spokesperson stated "It's the type of contract that could be used in some kind of mass migration." This comment was followed by additional comments from the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps talking head said "the centers could be at unused military sites or temporary structures...and would each hold up to 5,000 people."Just so you know I have that about right: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/04/national/04halliburton.html?_r=4&oref=login

Our mainstream media has reported that the South of the Border workforce has been returning home because of our current economic situation and the Arizona law. With exception of the gulf(Half Ass anyway),the white house has pretty much blew off recent weather related emergencies, the oil spill in Michigan,so the states seem to be handling disasters well without any kind of new help from the fruitcakes in DC.

So just what are these potential new programs that might require additional detention space?Who are these people that Homeland Security thinks/feels might be part of a mass migration? We are not birds humans do not migrate easly.Humans migrate for improved living conditions or at the point of a gun.

Even back in the 80's with the Cuban Boat crisis, the Cubans were shiped to already existing military bases. Now True, little known military installations were used for this, and a detention staff was needed because Cuba took advantage of the situation by emptying its prisons and mental institutions and we had a huge influx of criminals and nut cases. Are we anticipating another boat crisis or something from down south?

Better yet,who are these people who will need to be detained because of potential new programs? What new programs, nothing I have heard of?What kind of programs require detention space?Detention dennotes being held against one's will, and why would our government have a need for a program for detention?Just how does a government go about planning for an "unknown"event that will require detention, but gives them enought warning to build the places?

It's the word detention that bothers me,frankly it smells.I don't think one would use the word detain if the government were providing assistance to victims of natural disaster.Perhaps the better word for this would have been shelter centers. That goes for whatever the government would view as mass migration.

I don't know if any illegals have ever been "detained" in any of these centers supposedly to be built by KBR/Halliburton,or if in fact any centers were even built. The media is quite on the subject and from what I know about the handeling of illegals,is that most illegals were cut lose with a promise to appear in court,(yea right) or shipped back across the border soon after apprehension.I could be wrong this tho.

I want to know the status of these detention centers. Were any actually built and are any of these sites manned by personnel? Are any U.S. citizens or non-citizens housed/detained in these sites?I also think the tax payer deserves an accounting of 385 Million dollars that belong to the tax payers of this country.

I want to know exactly what kind of potential new program is being envisioned that would require the planning and operating of detention centers that could hold 5,000 people. Finally, who is going to man these detention centers if/when activated? Is this one of the new missions of Northern Command(and that is another one that scares the hell out of me)?Anybody out there have any answers?and I don't mean crap heard 3 or 4th hand.

Well what the hell did you think you were going to get?It is 2am here and I'm doing this on the fly,,but I still want to know.

    Cinnamon and Honey

Some facts about cinnamon and honey. I am not sure where this information originated, but it was e-mailed to me from someone, who got it from someone.I have always stored local honey, looks like I should add more cinnamon too.

    The article

    CINNAMON AND HONEY

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing". when this happens you loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey. Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around: It is found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "ram ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases.

Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, in its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon of Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BAD BREATH: People of South America, first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient has been found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

DIABETES: Cinnamon has been shown to reduce blood sugar and stabilize A1C in diabetics. Blood sugar can go from 'pre-diabetic' to normal in six months of adding cinnamon to your morning oatmeal.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing your teeth and in the afternoon at about 3:00 pm when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Do this process daily and you will be kept miles away from the next heart attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients sucessfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

    signs of a failing economy......

I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail..

African television stations are now showing 'Sponsor an American Child' commercials!

I bought a toaster oven and my free gift with purchase was a bank.

If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.

McDonald's is selling the 1/4 ouncer.

Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America.

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.

When Bill and Hillary travel together, they now have to share a room.

The Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas is now managed by Somali pirates.

Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh Great! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!

    And, finally...

I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Hotline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck...

    12/04/2009

Spent most of the day working on the new web site.More room to post and will be setting up some fourms.

I had found this awhile back, could come in handy if your caught without a sleeping bag.Now if you don't have a survival blanket ;)

This method doubles up much of the survival blanket on top of your body, but keeps only one layer beneath. Much of a blanket beneath you will be compressed by your body and loose much of its insulation (that is why thick padding underneath you is important), so it is better to put most of it on top. Doubling up the survival blanket also creates a layer of dead air between them, meaning that two blankets together are more than twice as warm as a single layer of the same material.

Especially if you are not using a firebed, be sure to place ample dry material beneath your body to serve as both padding and insulation. Many people do not realize they are sleeping cold at night because a large amount of body heat is transferred directly to the cold ground. Rather than add more insulation on top, what they really need is thicker padding underneath them.

    Test the Survival Blanket
First test the length of the survival blanket. Then lay down on the survival blanket so that there is at least a foot (1/3 meter) of material sticking beyond both your head and feet.

If the survival blanket is too short, I recommend moving it up past your head so that there is about foot (1/3 meter) of material sticking out. This is because more body heat is lost through your head than from your legs and feet. To serve your lower extremities as a blanket, gather a large mass of dry insulating materials such as leaves or grass to cover your feet and lower legs to a depth of at least four to eight inches.

Steps for Making the Survival Blanket Sleeping Bag
The following directions assume your survival blanket is long enough to extend beyond both your feet and head. If not, first bury your feet in the dry insulating materials you gathered and start at step 3.

    1. Lay down on the survival blanket so that your body is centered diagonally with an equal amount of blanket above your head and below your feet.

    2. Sit up and grab the corner of the survival blanket at your feet and pull it up toward you as far as it will go, so that the survival blanket is snug against your feet.

    3. Grab the left side of the survival blanket and in a fluid motion sweep it over your body toward your right side. The blanket should fit snugly.

    4. Sweep the right side of the survival blanket over to your left side, covering the blanket you placed over your body in step 3. Notice how this effectively doubles up the survival blanket and increases the amount of insulation to keep you warm. When you sweep the survival blanket over, keep a triangular section that runs from the right side of your head across to your left armpit folded down.

    5. Fold the corner of the survival blanket that is above your head down over your face.

    6. Grab the triangular piece of survival blanket made in step 4 over your face and clinch the mass snugly against your shoulders and head.

Be especially careful around the head and neck area, where a majority of body heat is lost.

    More Than One Survival Blanket
If you are fortunate enough to have more than one survival blanket, start the process of making your survival blanket sleeping bag by placing one on top of the other. Put the most waterproof survival blanket on the bottom and the softest blanket on top. Then when you follow the steps the waterproof layer will be on the outside protecting the inner layers from dampness.

    12/02/2009

Back after Turkey day, hate long driveing. Is it just me or is there alot less mom and pop stores up and down the roads these days? Some places I have been stopping at for over 20 years gone, nothing out there but the stop and shops.

I came upon LandAndFarm.com today, and have spent a few hours looking through all kinds of property. Really fun site if your looking (or like me, dreaming) of a home, cabin, retreat, homestead or bug-out-land(BOL). There are some fairly good deals to be found, and a lot of nice land to look at.

    Had to pass it along!

    Saturday, November 21, 2009

    11/21/09

    Oh,where to start?

The preepy preppers who think they have to spend thousands of dollars for their BOL(Bug Out Location), a mountain of MREs and more fire power than they will even know how to or will need to use.The ones that carry everything but the kitchen sink in a BOB(Bug Out Bag)? The tinfoil army running around hollering like chicken little? Ok,alittle of all then.

    More Dollars Than Sense

Frist off let me say,yes if you have the money get a place away from major cities, less people equals less problems. But do you have to have 25 acres and a home that is more a fort than a house? I don’t think so. You can cut it anyway you like but if a group of not so friendly people want your place and they have some military training, they can and will take it. Sure you can make them pay but the outcome for you is the same. If your BOL looks like a target you can bet it will become one.
MREs, they can have a place in your preps, but cases and cases of them? It may just be that I had to eat them way to often, but the thought of eating them for months at a time,,well I might just shoot myself. Buy and stock up on what your family eats. You can have a whole store in your basement but if it is not stuff you use and rotate out not going to help much.
Firearms,,I can hear it now us guys do love our toys and I will more than likely piss a lot of folks off later,,for now lets just say it is more the user than the tool. You can have a $1500 AR with all the bells and whistles still going to end up dead if the good old boy behind the tree with a single shot 12 ga. shoots first. A firearm is a tool like any other use what works for you but think things out. I will cover more on this at a later date.

We all have seen them, we all know them and sometimes we start to become them.
They have a BOB that looks like they are going on a Nat. Geo. expedition rather than keeping alive for 72 hours or so. Another thing I’m sure to write more on but for now. Come on folks, put the bag on go for a walk not far just a mile or so. Now a few things I want you to think about when your walking.1. you have how far to go to your BOL? 2. How far could you run with that if you had to and how much noise you going to make doing it? 3. (The big one) want you to think like a bad guy you see 2 people walking one with a nap sack and a bed roll the other in camo and a big ass pack,,want to bet on who gets mugged or more than likely dead?

Chicken Little (or the sky is falling)
Yes we all know the shit is hitting the fan and Murphy was a optimist,or we would not be preppers and you would not be reading this. The cause realy does not matter, cover your basics (Shelter, food, water, fire and protection) the rest is secondary.Everyone needs to set down and do a threat analysis. What is the most likely thing that can go wrong where you are? OK,got that done? Now whatever you put at the top of your list, start thinking about what you can do to prep for it. After you have the basics covered.80% of your preps are going to be the same for any major SHTF type of event. This running around freaking over the next end of the world thing that comes down the pike makes us all look like nuts.
